Larch is a typical found around the Alps in Central Europe, with a straight trunk it will grow to a height of about 4 m with a diameter up to 70 cm.
Sapwood is narrow and yellow clearly demarcated, heartwood is light brown to dark red brown and can vary largely dependent on origin and environment. The texture is fine to medium according to growing speed.
The resin canals in Larch are smaller than that in Pine occurring more often than usual showing medium to high density with good strength properties.
Gluing properties are good, sawing properties are good with nailing and screwing properties are good, but pre-boring is necessary. Larch is used for heavy carpentry, exterior panelling, exterior and interior joinery and also for flooring
