Maples And Birch

Kempas Wood Flooring

Kempas tends to be an orange-brown often mistaken with mahogany as they share like appearance and similar grain.

With deep reddish (orange-brown) colour tones Kempas is very warm and cosy and is often found in larger governmental buildings like Naval and educational institutions

Kempas has a medium to coarse open texture with a grain that is interlocked and sometimes wavy with streaks of brittle tissue that can be a source of mechanical weakness.

Once a popular choice as a hardwood floor covering used in parquetry styled and strip floors in solid formats, today Kempas hardwood flooring is only available in limited styles of 3 strip and single plank engineered which is becoming more scarce.

Maples & Birch ethically only sell Kempas that is milled from trees sourced from sustainable ethical farmed forests which are regulated by ethical environmental groups/bodies that govern the planets valuable environmental forests.

Kempas is reported by the IUCN as being conservation dependent, cessation of any current conservation programs has resulted in it being listed as vulnerable/endangered

Kempas is not as common as it used to be and when available imported under license as flooring in only engineered structured as single plank and 3 strip formats
