White Oak Wood Flooring

White Oak is a light to medium brown, commonly with an olive cast. Nearly white to light brown sapwood is not always sharply demarcated from the heartwood. Quarter-sawn sections display prominent ray fleck patterns.

Conversely, Red Oak tends to be slightly redder but is by no means a reliable method of determining the type of oak. The grain is straight, with a coarse, uneven texture.

White Oak is the state tree of Connecticut, Illinois, and Maryland. White Oak is strong, beautiful, rot-resistant, easy-to-work, and economical, representing an exceptional value to woodworkers.

It is no wonder that the wood is so widely produced for flooring usage.

American white oak has creamy coloured sapwood with a light to dark brown heartwood. White oak is mostly straight-grained with a medium to coarse texture, with longer rays than red oak, producing a distinctive and attractive grain pattern.

American white oak is widely available and is a popular choice in export markets around the world for many furniture, flooring and joinery manufacturers due to its colour consistency and the high volume of square-edged lumber production, and veneer availability.

The wood is hard and heavy, with medium bending and crushing strength. It is low in stiffness, but very good in steam bending.
