If you are looking for a distinctive wood which can vary in colour greatly then a Hickory flooring might be the ideal choice for you.
The natural variety of Hickory floorboards and bold grain can be a positive or negative depending on what the homeowner is looking for. When put next to each other it can create quite a striking design that some people are looking for.
Because of this it is important you choose an experienced floor fitter to install your hickory floor as matching the pattern can be a difficult job to make look right. If installed correctly you could have a warm, rich and striking flooring that is very durable and will last for years.

Hickory has a more varied design than many other popular kinds of wood like oak and maple but it is also much more durable. On the Janka, Hardness Test Hickory scored 1820 whereas maple scored 1450 and red oak only 1290. This means that hickory is a great choice for rooms with high footfall or in houses where you expect your floor will experience scratches and knocks (such as homes with children or pets). It will expand and contract a bit more than other wood which you should think about if you plan to install hickory wood flooring in a room that will experience high humidity and variable temperatures.
